Bead/Chile Fiesta

Tomorrow begins the 18th Annual Bead/Chile Fiesta and I can't wait! I may not sleep a wink tonight. My good friend and roommate for the B/CF will arrive at 11am. I know we will have a great time.  As always we will keep our room perfectly straight and our beads organized..... NOT!!!

It's hard to believe that this is our 18th year to gather in Santa Fe for four days of beading, learning, eating and giggling. Once again Nancy from Cape Cod will travel father than anyone else to be here.

Mary Tafoya will give a class on Expoxy Resin Clay, Bonnie Brooks will teach bead crochet and I will teach Soutache techniques. Our classes are all FREE so we are guaranteed to get out money's worth!

Let the games begin!

Santa Fe is becoming a ZOO!

Just a few days ago I posted about a deer eating our tomatoes. This wouldn't be unusual if I lived in the country but I live in the center of Santa Fe. Today this Black Bear found it's way to an area about 4 blocks from my house. A bear? Yes. Not a bead but a bear! It was tranquilized and will be released back into the forest.

A deer.

A bear.

What's next? a Hippo?

Doe, a deer, a dog-gone deer!

I live a few blocks from the Plaza in Santa Fe. I don't live in the woods. Imagine my surprise when my neighbor e-mailed a photo she took of a deer eating our tomatoes. Doesn't the deer realize it's in the city? Perhaps the "street" beside my house fooled it. Yes, it's gravel and isn't really a street. We call it the donkey path. That's Santa Fe for you!

Third Phase - De-Stashing Sale

After a great visit with my daughter Ali and her children Olivia and Cooper I'm back to working on the third phase of my de-stashing sale.  I had NO idea I had so many beadwork books. I've been gathering them from the early 80s. I found some duplicates. How did that happen? I hope to have items ready soon!

Whew!

I just finished the first stage of my De-stashing sale. I'll have more later. I should be able to add items at least once a week if not sooner. I started with books, cabochons, jewels, findings and European style bracelet items. You can see the sale items here:

WORKING ON THE SALE

I've now spent several days scanning stuff and I have only made a small dent in one part of my stash. One small part and many more parts to go. If this wasn't beads and jewels I'd consider dumping everything in the trash. But who could do that to a bead or jewel? Only a heartless wench would do it. Like Miss Scarlett said "Tomorrow is another day." so with any luck I'll make more progress!

Big plans....

Tonight I made a big, big plan. I will start de-stashing my studio and sell things. I have more beads and supplies than a whole flock of beaders could use in a year...maybe two! I am definitely a compulsive bead buyer. There, I admitted it. It's going to be hard to let my pretties go to a new home but I need to do it.

The big question is where and how to sell them. Should I go the eBay route? Etsy? Private sale via my newsletter? I'd appreciate your opinion. Just add a comment please.

After the show.....

.
I've spent the day with a huge bead show hangover. I keep thinking about all the things I could have bought and didn't. I bought a lot but there is never enough beads.

I'm missing Bonnie a lot. We went to lunch at our favorite lunch spot La Casa Sena. The food was wonderful and the drinks even better. We ate outside in their beautiful patio. It was lovely and I'm glad we asked for a sunny table. We went to the show the first and last day. The second day we decided to go to the plaza. We weather was perfect so we ate lunch there. We had yummy fajita tacos which are sold at one of the little food stands. We listened to music and just vegged out. We finally got hungry for dessert so we went to The French Cafe in La Fonda hotel. Crepes with strawberries.... yum, yum! We looked in a couple of stores and went back to a bench on the plaza. Bonnie beaded the entire time we were there. I did a stupid thing and took everything I needed to work on a piece except the beads. What a duh thing to do.

After that lovely day the weather turned cold and windy. It's still cold today and that probably added to my bead show hangover!

BeadExpo

.
Today was the first day of BeadExpo Santa Fe. My good, good friend Bonnie Brooks came for the event. We didn't even make it to all the booths. We'll have to go back tomorrow. Oh darn!!!! I bought about half a ton of crystals. OK, so I exaggerated a wee bit but I did get a lot. Now the big question is what to make with them!

I will get back to beading

.

This afternoon I decided I had to get back to beading. I found a project that was almost finished and set out to finish it. All I need to do is bead the bottom of the piece. This shouldn't take very long. Right? Wrong! I didn't want to walk to the studio/office/guest house because it was too far away since it's out the back door and across the donkey path. I have enough beads here in the house. Surely I have matching beads here. Right?

1. Sat down to bead.
2. Couldn't find any of my 19,750 needles.
3. Finally found ONE.
4. Couldn't find the gray beads that I used before.
5. Finally found some almost matching gray. No one will see the bottom of the piece. Right? That will have to do.
6. Looked in my thread box and couldn't find medium gray thread.
7. Decided to take a coffee break.
8. Finally found light gray thread. That will have to do. No one will see the bottom of the piece. Right?
9. Sat down to bead and added two beads.
10. Uh oh….. one matte black bead on the piece is missing.
11. Dug through boxes and boxes and only found hex black beads.
12. Finally cut one matte black bead off the edge of a finished piece.
13. Sat back down to bead and add a few more beads.
14. Decided I had to make the loooooong trek to the studio for beads, thread and needles.
15. Decided to take a Coke break instead.

I will get back to beading. I will get back to beading. I will get back to beading. Right?

One of those weeks....

It's been one of those weeks.... again. I really wanted to do some beading but somehow life keeps getting in my way. Yesterday I planned to make a necklace with pearls and crystals. I've gathered all the beads and I still haven't threaded the first needle. Sigh.

Have you ever had one of those weeks? Could it be that I am getting in my own way? Do I need a shrink? Or perhaps a drink? Grand idea!!!

Pinterest

I have a new obsession called Pinterest. Like I needed more internet things to keep me from working! My daughter got me hooked and I don't know whether to thank her or not. Some of what I see doesn't interest me but lots of things do. Each person makes "bulletin boards" and pins photos on the boards. I know it sounds goofy but it works. I have boards for beadwork, travel, jokes.... and on and on. When you see something interesting you can "repin" the item to your boards. I've even been reading recipes and I hate to cook!

You may have to be invited in order to play but I'm not sure. If you do just send an e-mail to my Yahoo address: (suzybeads) and I'll send you an invitation.

Long time no blog!

I think I win the prize for going the longest time between posts. This has been a busy, busy time for Coop and I but darned if I can remember all we did! We had a grand time at Indian Market with our daughter Lee Ann, her husband Wayne and Ali's husband Jeff. Ali was teaching so she couldn't come. The guys went trout fishing one day so Lee Ann and I went shopping. In November Coop had to go to Window Rock to visit with the Navajo Nations computer group. We took a couple of days to play in Gallup. I thought I had seen a lot of Indian jewelry here but I saw more in one trading post than in our entire city. And did I buy something? No..... but Coop bought me a pair of earrings and TWO beautiful old pawn silver bead necklaces for my birthday! Then came Christmas with a visit from Ali, Jeff, Olivia and Cooper. We had a wonderful time! I guess that brings me up to date!
